Text links.

If PPC isn't working out for you, sell text links! It's a good way to get that revenue you're lacking.
The higher your PR, the better your traffic- the more links on your site are worth.
I've made pennies from PPC programs but I've made thousands from selling text links.
My highest PR reached on any and all of my sites was 3.
If I can make thousands from a few low PR sites, imagine how much you could make from yours!
If you're not sure how much to sell your links for, search around a bit. See how much other people are selling their links for and what their traffic and PR is like.
Remember though, YOUR links are worth how much YOU can sell them for.
If you feel like you can sell it for double the amount other people are selling theirs, do it!
There's some serious money to be had.

Paying for traffic.

This service promises to send you traffic, but at best you get nothing. Think about it - if it worked well, wouldn't the firms offering it just keep all the traffic themselves? Traffic is online gold and every site is killing for more.
What you really get is worthless traffic generated from free porno galleries, exit consoles, pop up windows, or all those intrusive tricks so many sites pull on visitors. Did you ever wonder how those frustrating and annoying pop ups or misleading links make money? They are almost always part of traffic pump groups that simply weigh success on the number of clicks they can generate whichever way possible. Their only goal is to get you to click on links. Then members of these groups resell traffic to each other or naive businesses. Do not buy this crap!

Paid URL submission.

Paying anyone to use submission software on your behalf is foolish. Not only will you learn nothing about what is needed to build a high search engine ranking, but you'll always need to pay again and again each time you submit another URL or wish to update your position. Even paying for inclusion within a search engine directly (like Yahoo Express) is not recommended. Yahoo charges a non-refundable $299.00 to review your submission. If they do not like your site - you lose. The chance they reject your site is fairly decent if submitted with errors or in an inappropriate category. Not to mention Yahoo is sourced by Overture and Google. If you use Overture you pay to rank well on Yahoo. Overture is excellent for all online sites to use. Also, if you rank well on Google, you will rank just as well with Yahoo. So don't pay Yahoo $299.00 to consider your site. Instead, try WebPosition Gold 2. It's the best way to list highly on the popular search engines.

Free advertising methods.

Get your site "out there" for free! Here are a few ways that have worked for me.

1. Visit active forums of the same niche as your site and post regularly with the URL to your site in your signature.

2. Get a MySpace account with a decent amount of friends and send a bulletin or two out at least once a week.

3. Do post exchanges with any site you're able to post at. They won't stick around but it'll make your forum look busy and get potential users to post.

4. Print out some flyer's with the name and description of your site on your computer and post them on store windows[with the consent of the manager, of course] or post them on some telephone polls.

5. Do link exchanges with sites with the same or similar niche and PR as your site.

6. Do banner exchanges with sites with the same or similar niche and PR as your site.

7. Submit your site to free directories. There are a ton of them out there and a lot of them don't require a reciprocal link.

Earn revenue with a phpBB forum.

These are some of the many ways to earn revenue using AdSense or other similar programs on your forum.

Sky Scraper-
This lets you place an ad on the left/right side of your site. Depending on the type of ad, this could get you a good amount of impressions and clicks.

Inline[my personal favourite]-
This MOD lets you place ads after x amount of posts in each thread. You can run as many ads as you like. They're rotated with each refreshed page.

FAQ: AdSense

Q. Is the amount of money I make per click normal?
A. There's no way to tell. Only you, Google and the advertisers know how much money you're getting per click. Every site, rate, etc. is different.

Q. How do I make more money?
A. Try fooling around with the placement and colours of your ads till you find something that works. It may take a while but it'll eventually be worth it. Also, promote more. More people > more impressions/clicks > more revenue.

Q. How do I avoid getting banned?
A. DO NOT- click your own ads, promote your ads, ask for people to click your ads, participate in autosurf programs, run more than three of the same type of ads on the same page, run ads on pages such as PM, Register, Memberlist, etc.

Q. I got banned. Can I get my account back or sign up again?
A. If you only have one site or one AdSense-ready site then you obviously can't sign up again. Luckily for you, AdSense gives second chances.

Extra- With AdLogger you can check if there's anyone committing click fraud. It allows you to see the amount of clicks they've made and shows you the clicker's IP.

Do not download any phpBB MODs that aren't from phpBB.com They could contain bugs, viruses, etc.

AdWords.

AdWords is Google's flagship advertising product, and main source of revenue. AdWords offers pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, and site-targeted advertising for both text and banner ads. The AdWords program includes local, national, and international distribution. Google's text advertisements are short, consisting of one title line and two content text lines. Image ads can be one of several different Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) standard sizes.

Personally, I wouldn't pay money to advertise my site but AdWords seems to have done pretty well for some advertisers/webmasters.

All AdWords ads are eligible to be shown on Google. Advertisers also have the option of enabling their ads to show on Google's partner networks.

The "content network" shows AdWords ads on sites that are not search engines. These content network sites are those that use AdSense, the other side of the Google advertising model. AdSense is used by publishers who wish to bring traffic to their websites. Click through rates on the content network are typically much lower than those on the search network and are therefore ignored when calculating an advertiser's quality score.
